God is an “advanced” Encourager

I awoke with a start this morning and prayed in panic, “LORD, I need a miracle.” My thoughts are on all the things to be done and I could not imagine how my husband and I could do them all given all other usual duties we have today. I have not been feeling well for a few days already, thanks to myearly pregnancy, so I could not really complain.

Meanwhile, I’ve been re-reading the story in 2Kings 6 since it was mentioned briefly during last week’s message in church. The story is about Elisha’s servant who panicked when he saw the enemies surrounding them. Elisha asked God for the servant’s eyes to be opened. I looked at the story again and it dawned on me that God has been encouraging me even before I realized that I am in trouble.

2Kings 6:15-17:
When the servant of the man of God got up early the next morning and went outside, there were troops, horses, and chariots everywhere. “Oh, sir, what will we do now?” the young man cried to Elisha.

“Don’t be afraid!” Elisha told him. “For there are more on our side than on theirs!” Then Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes and let him see!” The Lord opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire.

And I just have to sing,
“Strength for today and bright for tomorrow
Blessings all mine with ten thousand beside
Great is Thy Faithfulness
Great is Thy faithfulness
Morning by morning new mercies I see
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided
Great is Thy faithfulness LORD unto me.”
